The story
Two and a half years ago I started building a numerology site with AI. It was a bad fit. The language models of the time were not ready for work of this size: hallucinated facts, broken code, whole files rewritten again and again. Producing code was slow and, honestly, painful. The tools around the models did not bend to this kind of project either.
About a year in, I tried to bring in the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference engine behind most serious astrology software. A month of work later I had to admit that the technology was not there yet. The Swiss code is old, deeply tied to its own way of doing things, and bolting it into a modern web project was a fight I was not winning. I switched languages, rebuilt parts, and kept going.
(Spoiler: I never did get it in. More on that below.)
Then, this spring, I tried web-based coding again. Something had changed. That is when Astroguider.app was born.
What I got wrong first
My first version had a lot of text. Pages and pages of it. A few weeks ago I decided most of that was not what the site was for, and I removed it. A reference library should help you understand a system. It should not try to convince you of anything, and it should not hide behind long disclaimers. Finance and health pages still carry theirs, and the legal page covers the rest.
What changed recently
The big shift was the calculation core. I did not end up using the Swiss Ephemeris itself. Its free licence would force me to publish the site's whole source code, unless I bought a commercial licence, and that does not fit a project that may one day have a paid layer. Instead the site now runs on its own engine: planetary positions come from an open-source astronomy library (Astronomy Engine, MIT licence), Chiron and the main asteroids come from NASA's public JPL Horizons data, and the houses, angles, lunar nodes and ayanamsas are my own code.
Then I used the Swiss Ephemeris as a yardstick. I compared the results on 300 random birth charts between 1900 and 2100. Ascendant, Midheaven and house cusps agree with Swiss to within about three arcseconds. The lunar nodes agree to within a few tens of arcseconds. The one visible difference is the mean Lilith, which is off by about five arcminutes. That is fine for reading a chart, but it is a real difference and I would rather say so.
That changed the whole game, because exact transits and aspects are what make a personal reading actually personal. It also means the site can tell you about you without AI in the loop.
What is inside
The library. About 150 pages: Western, sidereal and Hellenistic astrology, BaZi (Four Pillars), numerology, feng shui and tarot. Each system is explained in terms of what it is, how it works and where it came from.
The calculators. A full birth chart with houses and aspects (including Chiron and the four main asteroids), annual profections, a love compatibility reading that combines astrology, BaZi and numerology, your Kua number, personal numerology cycles, and astrocartography: your planetary lines drawn on a world map, with a reading for any city.
Today. A personal day, week, month and year reading. It combines your transits, your numerology cycles (the personal year runs from birthday to birthday, as it should) and your BaZi pillars, and it shows its working so you can see why each signal is there.
Your data stays with you
This part matters to me. Your birth details are stored only in your own browser, on your own phone or laptop. They are never sent to a server and never stored by me. The one thing that leaves your device is the name of a city, when you search for a birth place. That goes to a free geocoding service, and nothing else does. You can export your profile, move it between devices with an encrypted transfer code, or delete it any time.
You can also install the site on your phone like an app. It works the same on a laptop.
What is not there
There is no AI in the interpretations right now. The readings are written texts matched to what your chart is doing, and I am not planning AI for now. If it does come one day, it will sit behind a paywall, because it burns tokens and tokens cost money. The library and the calculators stay free.
Try it
Start with Today, then build your birth chart, and then drop your chart on the world map with astrocartography.
I built it because I wanted to read the patterns in my own chart without handing my data to anyone. If it helps you do the same, that was the point.
